Kaumatua Programme

Kahungunu Health Services acknowledge what our kaumātua have done for us and feel privileged to have the opportunity to provide a range of services specifically for our elders.

Our Kaumātua Programme is about helping our kaumātua and supporting them in the community with their health and social well-being. We offer free transport, support and advocacy to and from any appointments.

Twice a month we have a kaumātua hui where we bring them all together to socialise.

Included in our get-togethers is an optional free health check from our two registered nurses, and our kaumātua are given a hauora passport to help manage and track their health.

The kaumātua hui provides them with kai and allows them to engage in activities and games. Based at our Flaxmere clinic, we also have our wonderful mirimiri kaimahi, Barb, who does mirimiri for those kaumātua who would like the service.

To join our program, you need to be Māori or Pacifica, aged 65 years or over.

Alternatively, you can pop into our Flaxmere or Hastings clinic and fill out an enrolment form and our kaiawhina and a nurse will be in touch to set up a time to come and see you and discuss our program with you.
